Film Screening + Q&A: Don’t Buy a Bomb
The War in Yemen. British Arms Sales. A Groundbreaking Legal Challenge.
Come and join us at Community Base for an evening of thought-provoking films and discussion. We’ll be screening “Don’t Buy a Bomb”, a short documentary made by Campaign Against Arms Trade and Demilitarise Education.
This is the story of a Nobel-Peace Prize nominated campaign, challenging the UK Government under International Humanitarian Law. Meet those who demanded justice for untold war crimes and bloodshed in Yemen.
Will The Campaign Against Arms Trade (UK) and Mwatana (Yemen) win their case and render British arms sales to Saudi Arabia as illegal? (spoiler alert: they did!) Find out how and why they won, the governments reaction and the significance for ongoing legal struggles today – including those to stop British arms sales to Israel.
The Q&A will include Anna Stavrianakis, Professor at Sussex University and member of Brightons local ‘Stop L3 Harris’ campaign, which has fought for decades to boot the arms trade out of Brighton. L3 Harris makes crucial components for the F35 Fighter Jets, which have been used extensively to bomb Gaza.
We will also be joined by Eva McQuade, the Director of the film, and Amina Atiq, Yemeni Poet and Activist.
Drinks and refreshments will be provided. Please share widely and we look forward to seeing you there.
